Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts is a community of artists and scholar-artists passionate about the fine and performing arts — committed to diversity and inclusion, and determined to improve the lives of others through art.
1991: — Construction started
Construction of Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts (BIFA) began on 9th September 1991, an initiative of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
1993: — First intake
On 10th May 1993, BIFA opened its doors to its first intake of 60 students across different disciplines of art. A dream brought to fulfilment by the late Fr. Thomas Burke.
1998: — Diploma programme adopted
The institute began with a two-year internal certificate programme and has since adopted a three-year diploma programme examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). BIFA has trained thousands of young artists since, and continues to reach and nurture new talent.
